This Privacy Policy explains how Local Rebate, trading as Rebate Checker ("we", "us", "our"), collects, holds, uses and discloses your personal information when you use this website and our rebate matching service.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). By submitting the rebate check form, you consent to the handling of your personal information as described here.
Contents
1. What personal information we collect
When you complete the rebate check we collect:

| Identity and contact | First name, last name, email address, mobile phone number |
| Property | Street address, suburb, postcode, state, electricity network area |

We do not collect sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act (such as health, racial or political information), and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
2. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you fill in the form on this website. Some technical and campaign data is collected automatically by your browser and by the advertising and analytics tools described in section 6. Address suggestions are provided by Google Places; the characters you type into the address field are sent to Google to generate those suggestions.
3. Why we collect it
- To estimate which federal and state solar and battery rebates your address may qualify for.
- To introduce you to up to three accredited solar and battery installers who can quote on your property.
- To send you your rebate breakdown and follow up about your enquiry.
- To verify eligibility, prevent fraudulent or automated submissions, and keep a record of consent.
- To measure which advertising campaigns generate genuine enquiries.
- To meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.
If you do not provide the information requested, we cannot check your eligibility or arrange quotes for you.
4. Who we share it with
We disclose your personal information to:
- Accredited installers and their agents — a maximum of three retailers or installers accredited under Solar Accreditation Australia, so they can prepare a quote for your property. Each receives your name, contact details, address and eligibility answers.
- Service providers — the platforms we use to operate the service, including web hosting (Netlify), data storage (Google Workspace / Google Sheets), address lookup (Google Places), analytics and advertising measurement (Google, Meta, TikTok), and any customer relationship management or email platform we use to contact you.
- Professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement — where required or authorised by Australian law.
- An acquirer — if our business or assets are sold or transferred.
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers or list resellers. Installers receive your details for the purpose of quoting on your enquiry only.
5. Marketing and how to opt out
By submitting the form you consent to being contacted by us and by up to three accredited installers by phone, SMS and email about solar and battery quotes, including by automated dialling or messaging systems. Consent is not a condition of any purchase.
Because you have given us express consent, we and our partners may contact you on the number you provide even if it is listed on the Do Not Call Register. That consent lasts until you withdraw it.
You can opt out at any time by:
- replying STOP to any SMS;
- clicking the unsubscribe link in any email;
- telling the caller you no longer wish to be contacted; or
- emailing hello@localrebate.com.
We action opt-out requests within five working days, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Once you opt out of our list you may still hear from an installer you have already been matched with; contact them directly, or let us know and we will pass the request on.
6. Cookies and advertising technology
This site uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your progress through the form, measure advertising performance and attribute enquiries to the campaign that produced them. This may include Google Ads conversion tracking, Google Analytics, the Meta pixel and the TikTok pixel. These tools may set cookies that allow the relevant platform to recognise your browser across sites.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings or optout.aboutads.info. Blocking cookies may stop parts of the form from working correctly.
7. Storage and security
Your information is stored in access-controlled cloud services operated by our providers. We use HTTPS in transit, restrict access to staff who need it, and review access periodically. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep lead records for seven years from your last interaction with us, so we can evidence consent and respond to complaints or regulatory enquiries. After that, records are deleted or de-identified.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
8. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia — most commonly in the United States and the European Union (for example Google and Netlify data centres). By using this service you consent to that disclosure. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
9. Accessing and correcting your information
You may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate or out of date, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@localrebate.com and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. There is no fee to make a request, though we may charge a reasonable cost for large or repeated requests.
If we refuse access or correction, we will tell you why in writing and explain how to complain.
10. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, email hello@localrebate.com with the details. We will acknowledge your complaint within 7 days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:
- Web: oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints
- Phone: 1300 363 992
- Post: GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use your information will be notified to you where practicable.
